What is Shetland wool and why is it so popular?
Bred on the Shetland Islands, Shetland wool is harvested from the native Shetland sheep and due to the harsh, cold conditions of these Islands, the wool produced from these sheep is known for its hardy and durable nature as well as being renowned for its toasty warmth. The wool is unique and doesn’t make the Shetland wool sweater bulky, they are warm and yet airy with a dense weave and have a knack for keeping you warm without weighing you down.
James Meade's traditional Shetland jumpers are not as rough as you think
Though it’s true to say that raw Shetland wool can be itchy. Men's Shetland Jumpers and Fair isle Sweater Men UK at James Meade are put through a spinning and washing process that makes the wool soft. Cutting through the wool’s natural coarse fibres to create that luxuriously velvety feel on the skin. James Meade not only offers the traditional Shetland wool sweater, but also soft men's Shetland wool cardigans, all knitted in the UK with Fair Isle jumpers having a more distinct pattern.
